by Rachel Ray

Have you ever thought about hiring help to clean your home? Some feel it is a luxury, while others consider it to be survival.

People hire someone to clean their homes for many reasons. With many people putting long hours into their careers, there’s tendency for their little time off being consumed with chores. To create a better work life balance, many opt to hire having their homes cleaned in order to truly have free time when they are home.

Others hire help because of other issues such as health challenges or they simply do not have the time in their busy schedules. Many elderly also hire help especially with larger more strenuous tasks.

Here’s a couple of suggestions while considering your best option. Do you prefer a cleaning company, or would you prefer a sole business owner who does their own cleaning? There are pros and cons to both.

If you choose to hire a company some of the drawbacks is that is can be more expensive as they have more overhead to cover. You also may not get the same person each time, which is difficult if you found someone you really liked. On the other hand, if you are dissatisfied with the work you usually have recourse in complaining to a supervisor. Many of these companies provide training their employees.

The other side is that business owners that do their own work can sometimes be a great way to go. Their reputation is on the line, which is priceless, so they want to make sure their customers are happy. See if they are bonded or insured, if not you’ll need to decide if you are willing to take that risk or not.

Interview your prospects. Here’s some things you’ll want to ask? What do they charge? What does that include? How long does that take them? Do they supply the cleaning supplies or are you expected to? Ask for references and check them. Do they clean while you are home or away?

It’s very helpful for them if you have an idea of what you’d like, such as which tasks, how often and any of your expectations.

It’s often surprising how reasonable costs are to hire housecleaning done, especially in light of your overall work load and taking into account work life balance issues. It may be worthwhile to do some research into this. Many people find it worth every cent!

While it is impossible and unhealthy to live a stress free life, there is good stress that we actually need to function properly, there is also bad stress that we need to minimize and deal with effectively to live a healthier life. These aren’t things that we can just internalize and think they will go away. Stress can have a profound impact on our health and the quality of our lives.

When you are facing stress whether it is acute (short term) or chronic (long term) stress it affects your overall physical and emotional health. Obviously short term stress is not as dangerous if you deal with the situation causing the stress and handle the stress properly. Chronic stress is another story, at first the symptoms that this stress causes may be very mild, but you may find that you are more susceptible to colds.

The longer the stress goes on though you may begin to experience more health problems such as depression, diabetes, heart disease, hair loss, hyperthyroidism, OCD or anxiety disorders, tooth and gum disease, sexual dysfunction, obesity, ulcers, fatigue and lethargy, difficulty sleeping and possibly death at the most extreme end. Suggestions of things that can be done to combat stress:

There are a number of things you can do that can help you deal with stress. Part of it is dealing with the situation causing the stress, if you can. If you realize it’s something beyond your control, simply letting go of trying to gain control will be stress relieving. Sometimes it means confronting the situation head on, and sometimes to means to put it on a shelf to deal with soon, but don’t procrastinate too long and that only delays the stress itself.

Quiet time and deep breathing can also help soothe jangled nerves. Perhaps taking a powerful nap would be very restorative. Turn off the cell phone, music, TV, computer and other noise making items. Sometimes we just need quiet.

Listen to soothing music and take a hot bath with a beautifully scented candle. The soothing music will help you calm your mind and the hot bath will help release the tension from your body. The fragrance helps to relax as well.

Talk a leisure walk outside, especially if you can find a beautiful quiet area to walk.

Read a great book and curl up with a cup of tea.

Have some friends over for dinner, or go out for a meal. Surround yourself with positive people who care about you, but don?t let the friendship be one sided. Share and enter into their lives as well, be a giver, not just a taker.

Write in a journal, sometimes getting your thoughts and anxieties on paper help diminish the power of those anxieties and worries.

Call a supportive friend or family member, reach out to someone you love. Many times we isolate and don’t give others the chance to see us vulnerable, when they really do care and would like to show that care at our low points.

Get outside, the sunshine and fresh air do so much for boosting vitamin D and for plain old getting us in a better mood.

Try to stop obsessing the problem over and over and over in your head. Try to turn off that old tape. If at all possible take a vacation, or even just a mini get away if you can, to get a fresh perspective. It could lead to the change that is just what you needed to get over the crisis point.
